Two's (Ages 2-3 years)
Welcome to the Two's Program at Discovery Station Learning Center! We know that helping young children feel safe and secure in their environment is critical for the learning process to take place. Our unique Two's Program allows children to develop skills such as sharing and interactive play while exploring different ideas in art, science, and language in our Discovery Labs. We proudly offer our students a specially trained teacher as their "Potty Pal", who will help your child achieve the long awaited milestone of Potty Training.
Core Care Groups and Ratio:
All students enrolled in the Two's Program at Discovery Station are assigned to a Core Care Group to help ease their insecurities about the world. We've discovered that when a child feels secure, there is no limit to their learning potential! Core Care Groups allow children to have the consistency of a one-on-one relationship with their caregiver to help them feel secure until they are ready to begin exploring on their own. Core Care Givers help their children with different activities throughout the day, including diapering, transition periods, and trips to the Discovery Labs. Discovery Station always adheres to the Adult to Child ratio mandated by the State of Virginia for this age group (1:8). However, the presence of our "Potty Pal" assistant teacher allows us to follow a lower Adult to Child Ratio of 1:6 throughout our academic day.
Curriculum and Schedule:
All Two year olds seem to have one question on their minds: "Why?". At Discovery Station, "why?" is one question we never tire of hearing! Our Two's Program centers on the thirst for knowledge that all young children have. Our Curriculum emphasizes the use of everyday materials and hand-on experiences to pique our students' curiosity about the world around them. Our classroom schedule alternates large blocks of child directed play with smaller blocks of group activities and teacher led activities. Our specialized outdoor play yard carries our Two-year olds imaginations to new heights while encouraging cooperative play and offering exciting new sensory experiences.
