School Age Child Care (Kindergarten- age 12)
Welcome to the School Age Program at Discovery Station Learning Center! Your school aged child will be surrounded with activities that will help engage their minds beyond the traditional school day. Your child will have the opportunity to participate in different lessons during the day, from art and science to drama and technology activities. Each school aged child is provided with a Discovery Station email address, and will be encouraged to send correspondence with their parents daily. Whether your school ager is relaxing in our library after a long day, or diligently working with our Homework Helper, Discovery Station is a place where your child will feel at home.
Each child enrolled in the School Aged program will have an assigned Primary Educator to help ensure a positive social experience from their very first day. Your child’s Primary Educator will ensure that your child is exposed to activities that suit his or her interests, and that they are exposed to a variety of one-of-a-kind experiences during their day. Discovery Station always adheres to the Adult to Child ratio mandated by the State of Virginia for this age group (1:15 for ages 5-8, 1:18 for ages 9-12). However, the presence of our Homework Helper assistant teacher allows us to follow a lower Adult to Child Ratio of 1:12 and 1:15 respectively throughout our after school program.
Discovery Station School Age teachers pride themselves on being a positive role model for students. Continued development of social skills, conflict resolution, and self-expression through the Arts are the hallmarks of our School Age Program. Full day Special Interest Sessions are available for all School Aged students during both the winter and spring Public School holidays. Discovery Station’s Summer Camp will offer exciting field trips, expanded science experiments, yummy cooking projects, and craft projects for all ability levels. Your child’s summer camp experience is sure to have a positive impact on your child for years to come!
