Preschool (3-4 years)

Boy and girl paintingWelcome to the Preschool Program at Discovery Station Learning Center! Your preschooler has undoubtedly achieved a number of developmental milestones in their young lives, and our full day preschool program is designed to help that continue. Building on a child’s curiosity through hands-on experiences, offering real choices, and exploring everyday challenges are only a few of the goals we have for your child this year. At Discovery Station, your child will learn about taking responsibility, problem solving techniques, and the art of cooperation in a safe environment filled with respect and affection.

Primary Educators and Ratios:

All preschoolers enrolled at Discovery Station Learning Center will be assigned to a Primary Educator to help them find comfort in their environment. Primary Educators are responsible for helping your child through their daily challenges, helping them to foster good friendships, and building their self-esteem. Discovery Station always adheres to the adult to child ratio mandated by the State of Virginia for this age group (1:10). However, the presence of our additional assistant teacher allows us to follow a lower adult to child ratio of 1:8 throughout our academic day.

Curriculum and Schedule:

At Discovery Station Learning Center, we believe that children of all ages learn best through play. Our preschool schedule is tailored to allow various types of child directed activities to take place in large blocks throughout their day. In addition, daily trips to our Discovery Labs helps keep their learning fresh and exciting with new experiences every day. Your preschooler will beam with pride as they share the story and illustrations they create as a part of our Language and Literacy curriculum, as well as valuable lessons in self-expression. An abundance of everyday, natural materials will afford excellent opportunities for hands-on learning in math, science, and art. There is no bigger reward then when you hear your child proudly exclaim, "I did it!".
