Toddlers (16 months- 24 months)
Welcome to the Toddler Program at Discovery Station Learning Center! We know that young children learn best when all of their senses are engaged, and when they are free to explore the world. Our program integrates each of the five senses through weekly lesson plans that are written to meet your child's specific needs, and their experiences are lovingly guided through Play by our experienced teachers. Toddlers are all “go, go, go!”, and Discovery Station has carefully chosen equipment and room arrangement to help fuel their curiosity about everything, safely. From books to animal exploration to art, Discovery Station Toddlers are given the tools they need to become happy and confident two year olds!
Core Care Groups and Ratio:
It's a known fact that young children thrive on repetition and have the need to develop secure attachments. That's why at Discovery Station Learning Center, your child will have an assigned caregiver that will respond to their every need, from diapering to preparing them for naptime. These Core Care Givers will give your child the consistency and assurance that toddlers need in order to develop a strong sense of self. Your child's Core Caregiver will give you a detailed written report each evening at pick-up that outlines his/her day, including diaper changes and meals, as well as sensory play and new challenges they faced. Discovery Station follows an adult to child ratio of 1:5 in the Toddler Classroom at all times, and an additional assistant is available to participate within the classroom during critical transition times throughout each day.
Curriculum and Schedule:
Young children are very curious about the world they live in, and toddlers certainly are no exception! Our teachers understand this about children, and use this natural curiosity as the basis for developing activities for each individual child. It's a known fact that toddlers have very short attention spans and active imaginations. Small group discovery activities followed by energetic and fun movement activities are a key feature in our class schedule. Our Toddler Curriculum gives teachers a wide selection of exploratory activities to introduce children to new ideas, and to present them with new and exciting challenges. Exposure to nature is an important part of your toddler's adventure with us each day, and they are given many opportunities to enjoy fresh air and sunshine in our dedicated outdoor Toddler Play Area.
